Judgement

Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master[a] that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. (Romans 14:4 ESV)

We may not want to admit it, but we often judge others. This judgement may not be in the sense that we are condemning them, but simply that we make judgements based on many external factors. The problemoblem with this is that we often do not have enough of their story to pass any form of judgement. In fact, we rarely know another person’s true situation or circumstances. So we should be very careful when passing any form of judgement.

The reality is that when we pass judgement on another we are often pointing a finger back at ourselves. The flaws or faults we find in others are also manifest in our own lives. Thus, we should first endeavor to remove the plank from our own eye before seeking to remove the speck from someone else’s. The scripture points this out in so many ways and we should heed its content.

Reflect on: Ask yourself when you come to judging another, do I see this in my own life? Is it I who needs judgement?
