25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. (1 Corinthians 1:25 NKJV)
I read the Bible to gain knowledge and to gain strength in my faith life. Without the scriptures my life would be lackluster to be sure. There is much knowledge for a man to gain in this world. Much academic knowledge to strive after. But I have found applicable knowledge to be far more valuable and the insights from God of so much more worth.
Now, am I talking down academic knowledge? Not at all! I do believe we have lost our way in the value it brings comparatively to the cost of that knowledge. Furthermore, academic knowledge will not get you very far if you cannot practically apply it, and that ability comes from the opportunity to apply the knowledge we have gained. So we are left with our own ability to apply knowledge and the insights and abilities God provides us to navigate this life. So why would we not go to the very source of wisdom and strength to help us do that which God has already planned out for our lives!?
I have worked with some very intelligent people over the years, and still do so today. Many of them were very good at a great many things, but often lacked in other areas. God helps round out our knowledge based skills with His desire for our compassion with others. I believe this is where we gain the strength we need for our daily lives. It does not come just from knowledge, but from loving compassion as well.
Reflect on: Just how much you actually rely upon God for both your strength and wisdom. Knowledge will only get you so far without God to help you apply what you have learned.
