Peace and Harmony

1 My son, do not forget my law,
But let your heart keep my commands;
For length of days and long life
And peace they will add to you.

Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
And so find favor and [a]high esteem
In the sight of God and man. (Proverbs 3:1-4 NKJV)

We can find peace and harmony in this life, but it may not come the way we expect. Scripture gives us many passages that speak to just how we can develop a sense of peace, but these require that we learn to live in harmony with God and man. In doing so we find that life is not the battle it once was but is much easier to live. We are no longer competing, we are living for God which means living in and with love. In doing so harmony is simply a byproduct.

The beauty of this is that it allows us to relax into the life we have and keeps us from much of the conflict that exist absent from God. Now, this does not mean that nothing bad will come our way. No, but what it does mean that when difficult times do arrive we are already at peace with life and we can face them with a newfound strength.

But to live like this we must do as our scripture guides, binding mercy and truth around our neck and write them on our heart. In doing so our go to is just that, mercy and truth. Mercy for those who wrong us and truth as the foundation of our lives.

Reflect on: How you find peace and harmony in your life. Is it absent or do you have it bound to you?
