Meant to Improve

66 Teach me good judgment and discernment,
for I rely on your commands.
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray,
but now I keep your word.
68 You are good, and you do what is good;
teach me your statutes. (Psalms 116:66-68 CSB)

We sometimes need to be taught a lesson. Possibly even a painful one.

However, God is faithful to forgive and teach us if we will but come back to His Word.

We must only accept that His judgement is good and that the lesson He is teaching is one prepared to make us better and more faithful.

When we repeat sin, and reap the consequences, we are not learning our lesson. We are being willful children in wanting to live our lives in whatever way we desire.

Our lesson not learned, we wonder at our affliction as if it were not something of our own making. Something that we have not brought upon ourselves.

Yes, God can allow adversity into our lives that is not from our own sin but something He uses to direct our lives.

So too, our enemy can afflict us while we are in this world. At least to the extent God will allow.

Thus, every affliction may not be from our willful sin. But no matter what manner it comes in, it is meant for our improvement.
