3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.[a]
4 Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act. (Psalm 37:3-5 ESV)
Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
We too often read this scripture backward. We want the Lord to give us the desires of our heart, then we will decide on just how much we delight ourselves in Him.
I have written on this passage before. God gives us three commands here; Trust, Delight and Commit. We tend to only read the last half of the second verse. We do not trust that His ways are better than ours. That His delights are better and that one and two rely upon three, to commit our way to the Lord. Then He will act.
Reflect on: Your trust, delight and commitment. Are these things focused upon the ways of the Lord?
