Earthen Vessels

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. (2 Corinthians 4:7 NKJV)

We want to be seen as strong and independent, but the reality is that we live in these earthen vessels, these often weak jars of clay we call bodies. God did this to keep us humble. He knew the potential for the pride of man and He gave us bodies that decay in a world that decays.

But the beauty of our relationship with God is that He is infinitely powerful. While we are weak and sinful people, nothing is impossible with God. We need only to tap into this power.

The earthen vessels that God gave us are also a good thing. I am not sure many of us this day and time would want to live the hundreds of years common in the days of Noah. The world is a complicated place now that would make longer life spans difficult indeed. That is unless we could turn off the effects of aging.

Reflect on: Your earthen vessel and your need for God’s infinite power in your life.
