6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. (Deuteronomy 6:6-7 NKJV)
We have been given commandments to live by and promises from God which require us to live a certain way. But how much do we truly talk about, teach and live by these on a daily basis. My guess is not much. We read about them in scripture, like the one we have today, and we go merrily upon our way. They are not the rules by which we vet every part of our lives.
God did not have men write the scriptures just for them to be nice stories. They were written as a guidepost to our hearts, a way in which to live. By rules in the Old Testament and by love in the New Testament. And the one points always to the other. Neither stand alone, nor are they meant to be lived out alone, they tie together and provide the moral compass we should use each and every day.
This, I believe, is why it is so important to start each day by reading the Word and praying to God. More often than not, my prayers are relegated to being lifted up on my drive to work. This too is a good part of my morning routine with God. It gets me mindful of myself and those around me. It helps me to focus upon the day ahead, to be walked not alone but with God by my side.
Reflect on: Not just the reading of the Word but the application of it in your life daily.
Do We Just Read, or Do We Apply
