14 Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. 15 And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” (Acts 1:14-15 NKJV)
Are you open to God’s assignments for you on the daily? In our scripture Lydia listened and opened her heart and her home to the disciples. Now, she was a business woman who probably ran her fabric business from her home. I am sure this kept her plenty busy either in the making or selling of her product. Yet, she listened to the Lord and heeded His call.
There have been a great many different things I have done for the Kingdom over the years. God has called me and I have listened and then there were times He called me and I didn’t listen. I can look back now and see the opportunities missed, and I always feel sad about the missed opportunities. Yes, sometimes I did not recognize the call until after I missed it, but there were also times when I chose against it. It is the latter that now burden my heart more.
Reflect on: Calls listened to and calls missed. Are you open to God’s call every day, or is it only on your terms?
