12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:12-13 ESV)
We know that scripture has a way of driving to the heart of a matter. Even though Christ used many parables to reflect both who God is and how He work, and to provide us guidance in every day life. But more importantly, this Word which is the scriptures is not some dead thing, simply a book worth reading. No, it is an active and living thing that causes disruption with unwavering truth that some today find offensive and intolerant. In truth it is only offensive and intolerant to those who desire to live apart from its teaching.
We may not always like what scripture has to say, but not liking something simply because it goes against what we want to do is not wrong. We, as humans, just do not like to be questioned. We do not like to feel naked and exposed to the intense truth of a moral God. Make no mistake we will all give account at the judgement.
Reflect on: Things you read in the Bible that rub you wrong. Is it because you do not believe or you do not want to be obedient?
