Seeking Something New

16 Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols. 17 So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there. 18 Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also conversed with him. And some said, “What does this babbler wish to say?” Others said, “He seems to be a preacher of foreign divinities”—because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection. (Acts 17:16-18 ESV)

Much like in the time of the Apostles, people are seeking “new learning” and “different ideas”. This was especially true in Athens at that time, as Greece was a hotbed of new ideology and spiritual enlightenment. We see this “seeking” happening today as well and we, as Christians, have a duty to see that they hear the gospel of Christ.

Some, like myself, seek to find our platforms to do this to try to reach the masses. But this happens just as much, and maybe to a greater extent, on a personal level. Hearing the Word in a larger setting may perk someone’s interest, but it is in personal one on one settings where they learn the most about God’s love. We, as believers, can be the water to help the seed of curiosity grow into a faith in Christ.

Reflect on: Where you see people seeking and what you can do to water any seed of new faith.
