1 But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. (Titus 2:1 ESV)
We are given many directives throughout scripture, but none is more important that our requirement to speak and possibly teach on sound doctrine. So, how do we know if this is what we are doing?
First and foremost, it must be based upon the scriptures. This is our primary reference for sound doctrine. Second, we should vet what we are speaking or teaching on through prayer and listening for what the Spirit directs us toward. Third, we must rely upon God to give us the words to say and not rely upon our own understanding, researching topics and asking for discernment.
Often people want to overcomplicate the process. They say that scripture is too hard to understand or that they feel ill equipped to say anything. This is just giving up on God or giving in to the enemy. We must be bold and speak from the spirit.
Reflect on: The opportunities you have to speak or teach on sound doctrine. Put in the work to prepare yourself with what you need then rely upon the Spirit for what you say.
