15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:15-16 ESV)
We really do not think twice today as Christians about proclaiming that Jesus was and is the Christ. But what if, like in Christ time, to do so would be considered a crime punishable by death? It may still come to that before the end.
Yes, especially in America, it is easy to state that Jesus is Christ because of our freedoms. If He came back and asked you to walk through the world proclaiming it, would you be so willing even today in America? First, we would require a huge amount of vetting of the statement of who He said he was. But how is this any different from the time He was truly here. Even when He arose on the third day His own disciples required proof.
So be proud that you can say boldly, when asked, “But who do you say that I am?”, Christ!
Reflect on: How bold you think you could be if your boldness could mean death.
