Temperament

18 A hot-tempered man stirs up strife,
but he who is slow to anger quiets contention. (Proverbs 15:18 ESV)

My anger can burn hot, but luckily it is not something easily inflamed.

As I have grown older I have come to realize the value of being a quieter and less easily angered person. While patience is still not a virtue, my ability to stay relatively calm has improved and there is a very noticeable value in this. There is not only the value of keeping our calm in difficult situations, it can create positive health improvements. Blood pressure stays in check, our anger does not eat away at either our mental or physical state.

Actively not allowing our temperature to rise in difficult or conflicting situations also helps us think more clearly. Solutions come more quickly to mind and we have a clear picture of the situation. Anger can often cloud our judgement and cause us any number of issues.

Reflect on: Are you considered ill tempered or easily angered? If so, work on a quiet and calm temperament that brings more value to life.
