Community

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (1 Peter 2:9-10 ESV)

The world can make us feel very isolated and alone. Additionally, especially if we work from home, we can build a state of isolation for ourselves that God never intended. We were meant for community. Both as part of our church community and in our work community. Even back in the day farmers who worked their own land were most successful when a part of a farming community. There is just strength in numbers.

Scripture speaks of community frequently and how, as Christians, we are meant to be a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession. This is a huge statement. Once we become part of the community of believers we are no longer ever alone. Both in the sense that God sends the Holy Spirit to dwell within and that we are to come together in community with other believers to share each others burdens.

Reflect on: Your place in God’s holy nation and how you are connecting with your community.
