8 through honor and dishonor, through slander and praise. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; 9 as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed; 10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything. (2 Corinthians 6:8-10 ESV)
This piece of scripture has a lot to unpack. It speaks of a life of service to Christ and the difference between how the world may view us, but then how we are viewed in the light of Christ.
The lives we live may depict a very different life than the one we have in Christ. I have contact with numerous itinerant preachers, lay ministers and missionaries who do not live lavish lifestyles. Often these people hold day jobs and do their ministry in what time remains. They may or may not receive any form of additional support, aside from the support of friends and family. Even then, many are shunned for their chosen lifestyle.
A life in Christ is a rich life indeed. However, that wealth may not be realized this side of heaven. If we are lucky, God provides for us a good living while we are able to continue to give some portion of our lives to His service. In fact, no matter what, we can give all portions of our lives to His service. We just have to remember to do so in every facet of what we do.
Reflect on: God’s blessings on you and how you are paying that forward for your ministry and others.
