Fleeting Pleasures

24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. (Hebrews 11:24-25 ESV)

This world offers us a lot of fleeting pleasures. Some of them can be healthy experiences that help us grow, but far too many are not healthy for our faith life.

God did not want us to go about our life not experiencing good things and pleasures. He only desires that they are within His plan and would help build up our Christian walk. Thus, there are many things that God made that He gave to His children as good and valuable experiences. The fleeting pleasures our scripture points to are the ones that hold no value and can be ultimately sinful.

Consider today’s most fleeting pleasure, that of the many things available to us online that hold no value. We waste so much time in watching inane content instead of finding things that could increase our knowledge or provide some value in life. Even those things that could bring us closer to God.

Reflect on: What takes time out of your life that is a fleeting pleasure of no real value. We do not have to never enjoy a humorous, relaxing moment. But those should not take over our free time.
