An Abomination

17 But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They[a] said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. (Jude 1:17-21 ESV)

I work very hard in these devotionals to not involve my writing in political or or social events and simply stick to commentary around scripture. But I feel strongly that we must speak out against things like what you may have seen in the opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics.

I did not watch them, but I have seen and read much commentary around it and especially the sacrilegious depiction of the last supper. There were other aspects of that “show” that need to be scrutinized as well, but I am going to stick to this one very unchristian detail.

Our world is in a state of rapid social, spiritual and moral decline. In fact, we seem to be spiraling out of control. The more we accept of things like mentioned above the worse it gets. The more we give in to a culture that has a louder voice than those who stand for for a moral and Christian based life, the worse it will get. This too is all scriptural, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.”

More and more, watching evil that now does not even attempt to hide in the shadows, I feel like we are coming into the time of the last days. In fact I say, “Come Lord Jesus, come!”

What we are witnessing is nothing short of an abomination and we cannot stand silently by as these things happen. Are we the minority, yes! But we have the strength of legions in heaven behind us. Yes! We must be courageous in the face of this and say, NO, we will not stand for it.

20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.
