13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. (Matthew 5:13 ESV)
I can, and have, been accused of being “Salty” in various ways over the years. I can also tend toward grumpiness if I am not careful. I try not to be this way and I succeed most of the time, but when I am off a little it shows in my face.
However, the type of salty our scripture speaks of is different. It pertains to us continuing to be Christ-like so that we and we do not lose the flavor of the faith life. We remain in Christ and in doing so, we retain a spice that should flavor all that we do. For if we do not, we can also lose our edge and our ability to cut through all the world and the enemy throws at us. We lose our ability to be a force in the world and are no good for anything other than to be trampled under people’s feet.
Being salty can have many definitions, but as it pertains to the life of the faithful it clearly means we do not lose the essence of Christ in our lives. We retain the flavor of being Christian and it is clear in all we do.
