Befriend Faithfulness

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
    dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. (Psalms 37:3 ESV)

Trust in the Lord, do good, befriend faithfulness.

What a great way to sum up how to live, but I especially like the idea of befriending faithfulness. It goes beyond the idea of being faithful and teaches us that we need to make it a hallmark of our lives. Different from being a friend, it is more of an internal accepting of Jesus love and a deep following of scriptural truth. It becomes an out flowing of both.

When we have done this, I believe, there is a peace and calmness that comes over our hearts and minds. We look at life differently, we look at people differently. This takes us even beyond turning the other cheek, and seeks to reach out and befriend those who would not be a friend to us. It is amazing how hard it is to react in anger to someone who only ever shows you love.

This idea, when taken deeply into ourselves and when we live life in this way shouts from the rooftops Jesus’ love. It not only sets us apart, but it makes us apart of others lives in ways we would be hard pressed to do any other way.

Trust the Lord, do good, befriend faithfulness.
