21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” (Matthew 16:21-23 NKJV)
Do you sometimes think you know better than God? I expect that we all do from time to time. Even Peter thought that he was doing the right thing by rebuking Jesus regarding His death. However, even when the situation looks right, we might be wrong.
How can we know more than God? We can’t. We can look at situations and circumstances and make our best judgement, but in the end we truly need to simply trust God. Our justification does not make us right, it simply means that we think we have right on our side. But how often are we mere human beings short sighted? Well, most of the time. We can only see the moment and gauge the situation from our past experiences. Even when our past experiences give us good insight, we might be making the wrong judgement.
We need to just turn to God and ask for His discernment and guidance in any given situation and lean on the Spirit for wisdom.
Reflect on: Times you thought you had the right of a situation but were totally wrong. Seek Christ first.
