3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.”
4 When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” 5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days, (John 11:3-6 ESV)
Wait, Jesus heard that someone He loved was sick and stayed two more days before going to check on him!?
Well, He did give a glimpse of what would happen in our earlier verses, that Lazarus’ sickness would not end in death. But, if you read on it does. However, Jesus did not say that his sickness would not result in pain and suffering of Lazarus or those around him.
Jesus uses this example of His divine power to show that nothing is impossible with God and to foreshadow the resurrection. He would use it to show that He, Jesus, is the only way to life.
I have written many times about how we cannot see very far down the road of life before us. In fact, our vision is limited to the moment we are living right now as I write this and as you read it. But we have a choice to make each of those moments about us, the world or Jesus. Yes, responsibilities take a lot of our time, but this does not mean that we cannot use that time in service to God. It just means that we must keep Him present in every moment.
If you are waiting on God right now, know that even though it may seem like He delays it is for His greater good.
