1 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. (John 9:1-3 ESV)
At times scripture like ours today can seem harsh. Here is a man who has been blind since birth who, seemingly, was so so that Jesus might display His works at this very moment.
This is where the human mind cannot comprehend the divine all that well. Wouldn’t it have been better for the man to have his sight and thus his life given back from the time of his birth? But we do not know and cannot see the many positive reasons that God chose this man and his life to display divine providence. It well could have been for the many people who had known him from birth salvation.
God may use a difficult situation in our lives to reach others through how we react to that situation. When we show our Christian values and our hope in the Lord through difficult times that others may take notice. It could be that God is working in their lives more than our own at that moment.
Never discount the far reaching effect that God’s seeming indifference to us can have in others lives. It is not that God does not care for us, but it is His deep care for everyone around us. Our lives should provide a signboard to God.
