The Good and The Bad

10 He replied, “You are talking like a foolish[a] woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”

In all this, Job did not sin in what he said. (Job 2:1 NIV)

Life has many ups and downs. This is simply the nature of the world we live in. Becoming a Christian does not mean that life will be only good, just that we always have a hope no matter what.

I have walked through may good times and many bad times both in my life and in the lives of others. There is one inevitable truth through all of them….the sun came up the next day. Life went on.

Through all of those good times and all of those bad times the key is to retain perspective. Neither tend to last forever and both provide lessons to learn if we are open to being taught. I may seem to write about this quite often, but it is a lesson we seemingly need to be taught often.

In our scripture today, Job has been through a lot. Far more than most of us will ever have to endure. His friends are not being good friends in their counsel. His hope of having friends who show compassion and walk through this with him is dashed upon the rocks of what they through was good counsel. Job is frustrated, Job is angry, but Job did not sin. He asked pointed questions of God, in which God asked him if the clay should tell the potter what it should be.

Our God is big enough for our hard questions. Just do not be surprised at the answer.
