That Friend

6 A fool’s lips walk into a fight,
and his mouth invites a beating. (Proverbs 18:6 ESV)

Have you ever had THAT friend. I have had a few of them. I do not today, and I know why. More often than not that friend led our group of buddies into trouble, and, hey, this was not necessarily just a secular friend. I have had a few Christian friends who were just the same, who just did not know when to shut up.

However, in that same vein a few of those Christian friends were the ones who spoke Jesus and the truth of the scripture mostly boldly. Yea, there were times when I probably cringed a little bit. But, God love them, they would not take no for an answer. The fire within pushed them to speak their mind on the one topic they felt most passionate about. I guess in some ways that I how I am in writing, I strive to speak scriptural truth no matter what.

The interesting thing about those types of friends are that we are somewhat awed by their outspokenness. They speak their minds and stick to their guns. In some aspects we have too much of this today and in some far too little. Christians tend to be the least outspoken of the bunch when we should be the most.

Yes, there is a right way to go about this, but you have to admit, you never forget THAT friend.
