14 When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, no one can discover anything about their future. (Ecclesiastes 7:14 NIV)
I tend to live my work life in three timeframes; what did we do yesterday, what are we doing today, and what do we have planned for tomorrow. I my personal life I tend to live more for right now. I am not good at planning things long in advance in personal matters, thus, much of what I do tends to be more spur of the moment.
We should plan. I am not saying that my work life is right and my personal life is wrong. Both has their merits and their shortcomings. I think in both cases we have to hold on loosely. If we grasp too tightly onto our plans we have no flexibility. If we are too unthinking and spur of the moment and do no planning at all we can find ourselves lost and stumbling through life.
There is a balance between the two that we must strike. We need just the right amount of planning with just the right amount of flexibility. In my business life I have to be much more stringent in my planning and execution. But if I do not allow for some flexibility everything can grind to a halt.
Regardless, God sees over all and I just need to let Him help me be the right amount of both.
