9 you whom I took from the ends of the earth,
and called from its farthest corners,
saying to you, “You are my servant,
I have chosen you and not cast you off”;
10 fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:9-10 ESV)
Many places in scripture we are told to “fear not”, “do not be anxious” and given other affirming phrases. However, these do not say anything about our situation changing. They are meant as a comfort for those in the midst of a difficult situation. In many cases God’s deliverance came much later on, even a generation later.
So if we are going through hell what are we supposed to do? Keep going.
Yes, that is had advice to hear. I have had times in my life where I was ready to give in, give up and throw in the towel. But I kept going. I got up each morning, said a prayer, read scripture and just put one foot in front of the other to make it through the day. Those times were hard, I would not wish them on anyone. But I made it through and I believe God helped me make it through. I know there are multiple signs that point to Him being there in hindsight.
Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on perspective, the world keeps turning. Day becomes evening, becomes night which filters into the next day. That has been happening for a very long time, and probably will continue to do so for this rock we reside on for some time to come. But we have no guarantees for today or tomorrow.
All we can do, is keep going.
