7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. (Psalm 20:7 ESV)
Many parts of the Bible were written during the rule of the Roman Empire. The Romans army utilized and trusted in chariots and horses for much of their power. Today we may find that we trust in money, false security, family, friends or the strength of our own hand. All these things, like the chariots and horses of that time, pass away. Only God is eternal and to be trusted in wholly.
Many of us woke this morning to bitter cold and, here at least, a dusting of snow. As I write this and look around me, I live in a home I have trusted to protect me and my family from the elements for over 30 years now. It has done its job commendably. However, I know that it is but brick, wood and cement and will not stand forever. While I may trust it now, it requires that I keep it up through maintenance and repair. The same goes for my body. It too requires maintenance and persistent work to remain strong and trustworthy.
With God, I know He is the same today, tomorrow and forever. The only maintenance requires with God is on keeping my relationship strong through right thoughts and actions. By following His plan and His Word, which are always the same and never change, I can be assured of a perfect eternity. One where things will ever be perfect. In this we can trust wholly.
