3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 So you will find favor and good success[a]
in the sight of God and man. (Proverbs 3:3-4 ESV)
What attributes are written upon the tablet of your heart?
Maybe it is a good time to really think about this question. Two are given to us in our scripture today that are most important; steadfast love and faithfulness. But what else informs how you live day to day? What else provides you the ability to find favor and good success with God and man?
Our personalities are more often than not developed by the attributes of our heart. They are the things that make us who we are and how others perceive us. Behavior can be changed but personality is far more difficult. And people gravitate or do not more often to our personalities.
If others feel that we are open and caring they are far more likely to gravitate to us and see us in a positive light. But this openness and caring nature needs to go beyond the superficial and we need to act upon our desire to be more loving like God. In doing so people do not just gravitate toward us, but they realize that that initial feeling that we are open and caring comes from a place of deep love for people. A manifestation of God’s love for us. It is more than skin deep.
