6 I stretch out my hands to you;
my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. (Psalm 143:6 ESV)
Have you ever reached a point in life where your soul actually thirst for Christ? You just need His healing hand upon you, His whisper of love in your ear?
I have and I know many others who have. These “dark nights of the soul” can be withering places. Places that make us feel abandoned and alone.
But we are not. God never leaves us. Even in a parched land where our soul thirst, God is there. It may simply be that He is waiting for us to stretch out our hands to Him.
Too often we try to “make it through” these periods on our own. We withdraw and find excuses to be alone, further increasing the feeling of isolation. At a time when we need others of the faith and God most we decided we just need to be left alone. This can be so that we can wallow in our own self pity or that we feel like no one cares and we want to play the martyr.
Why? To what useful end do we do this?
Because we are human and even our own self-absorbed isolation is how we rebel and sin against God. We do not realize just how easy it is to stretch out our hands, get on our knees and feel the warmth and love of God wash over us. He is waiting for us to turn our face toward Him.
