¹¹ But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.¹² Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6:11-12 ESV)

There is much value in our faith. It is something that we should fight for so that we “take hold of the eternal life to which you were called”.

This taking hold of the eternal life is what we need to cling to in our faith. This world will fail us but if our faith is strong and we are focused upon where God is leading we will overcome it.

I know, we all go through periods where it feels like we are perpetually in a fight just to tread water. But God did not offer up an easy life, He offered up eternity if we will but persist in this faith life. Yes, this can be hard. Yes it can feel lonely and we may want to give in and give up. But how often do people quit just before life opens up for them? How many have miss opportunity because they gave up a moment too soon? Wouldn’t it be painful to look back upon life and find out how many times we just missed the mark had we only held out a bit longer.

This is why we must take hold of the eternal so that our perspective is continually on what is to come. We will not achieve that eternal life until this one is done. Thus, we must make the most of every moment we are here. Pressing ever toward the goal.
