12 “Everything is permissible for me,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me,” but I will not be mastered by anything. (1 Corinthians 6:12 CSB)
We have a great freedom on earth. God does not hold anything back from us. However, not everything we could do, should we do. Not all things are beneficial.
God gives us free will, but He also gives us a conscience, rules and guidance through His Word and through the Spirit.
Furthermore, He well understands that that which we want to do can very easily consume us. The earth and the enemy creates the perfect storm of pleasure and want so that we are mastered by our passions and our pride.
So, while everything is permissible, not everything is beneficial.
The key here is to not be mastered by our passions or our pride. Our passions lead us astray and our pride says to us that we deserve these things and more. This is simply the enemy and his lies preparing a place of death for us. He wants nothing more than to see us fall and then rub our noses in it over and over again.
How different our loving Father, who draws us into a loving embrace, heals our wounds and sets us upon the right path.
