Who Do You Work For

23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:23-24 ESV)

Over the many years I have worked for a lot of different people. Some were good leaders, some were not. Some companies had a good culture, some did not. However, at some point I completely changed how I worked. Yes, I did try to look at the scriptures like today’s and do my work for God. But also I began working as if my role, no matter what it was, was a business I ran that I sold back to those I worked for. These two concepts changed how I worked drastically.

While I strived to be a good worker and take direction, more often than not I created my own direction. I made it a point to stay ahead of the curve with the departments I lead. I took complete ownership of both the work we did, hours worked, and the money we spent as if they were my own. I worked for God more than man and I owned what I did and I believe God has blessed this approach as have those I worked for.

Reflect on: Who you work for and who owns your efforts.
