24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. (Hebrews 11:24-25 ESV)
Consider, what is the most valuable thing you own? Consider also the most valuable thing you could be given. Now, think about giving both up for the greater wealth of your heavenly reward.
In truth, we do not like thinking about giving u our creature comforts. Maybe you have a lot, like the rich young ruler in scripture. Maybe you only have a little, so you really value what little you have. Regardless, we want to look at our possessions as ours, something no one can take from us. But maybe we are missing the greater while holding on to the lesser.
God’s path surely seemed wrong to many in Moses’ case. I mean, couldn’t he have done more for his people as part of Pharaoh’s court! But no, God needed to humble the man before He used him to humble a nation.
Reflect on: Do you need to be humbled about what you have so God can do more?
