Wait – Our Understanding of Control

14 Wait[a] on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord! (Psalm 27:14 NKJV)

Learning to wait may be one of the most misunderstood virtues that we can cultivate. I say cultivate, because waiting does not come naturally to most of us. In fact, most of us are just impatient creatures that have difficulty waiting for coffee to brew…yes, that is me.

We tend to think of waiting in a specific sense regarding things we are looking forward to or want to see happen right now. However, waiting is actually a much more ever-present experience in our daily lives. This is because our understanding of control is far short of our actual ability to control anything. We do not internalize that God is in control of everything and as such every thing we do waits on His plan for our lives.

When we think of God, we think of Him in grandiose ways, which we should. But He too is in control of the little things in our lives and in the workings around us. If He numbers the hairs on our head, how much more in control of all our ways must He be!?

Reflect on: Your relationship with time and your understanding of how God sees to each moment.
