There is this story we tell ourselves, especially if we are type A highly confident people. We believe we are sufficient within ourselves to take care of whatever happens or we want to make happen in this life. We are an island unto ourselves. But the truth is that we are not. We tell ourselves this right up until we find a situation we cant handle.
5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, (2 Corinthians 3:5 NKJV)
Look, being self-sufficient is not a bad thing. It is actually a very good thing if it is tempered with a knowledge that we need God no matter what. God is not looking for us to just sit and do nothing until He moves. He is looking for us to move forward in His guidance, even when we may not be totally sure of that guidance. He will direct our paths if we are simply open to that direction and staying within the guardrails of what scripture teaches us.
God simply wants us to put our cares and plans before Him and to listen for His still small voice, staying true to His guidance.
