³³ But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:33 ESB)

As we move quickly toward the New Year, we need to level set upon what is absolutely most important.

Seek first the kingdom of God.

This should be our primary New Year’s resolution. If we are seeking His kingdom first then we are going to be acting in a way that is in step with God’s plan. By seeking it first, and always, we are trying to do what we do in order to please God first. Not self, not family, not work. This gets our head in the right place.

And His righteousness.

Seeking His righteousness gets our heart in the right place. This will help us to display a Godly character in all we do. We are not seeking righteousness for or of ourselves but as it is rightfully gained, from God. It is His righteousness. Through this we are made right in His eyes as much as is possible on this side of heaven.

And all these things will be added to you.

Then we come to what we get from all of this. All these things will be added to you. Go back and read the verses before ours and find out what these things are. They will provide for a life that while possibly not perfect, is seeking perfection on this side of heaven.
