Message in the Words

My speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom[a] but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not be based on human wisdom but on God’s power. (1 Corinthians 2:4-5 CSB)

I have listened to many powerful preacher speak of the Word. Sat through many persuasive arguments about who and what God is, was and is to be. But the power of these sermons was not in the sermon or the speaker, it was the God’s power manifest in the stories and how His words impacted others.

I truly hope that my commentary on our scripture each day points ever toward the source of scripture and never toward the writer. I am not a man of elegant or persuasive speech, but God has given me a conduit I hope to use for His glory.

Our faith should not be based on human wisdom, but on the clear understanding of Christ sacrifice and God’s power in our lives. To live out this life through Christ is the highest calling and should be our foremost effort. It is to easy to fall into the place where we are simply surviving. We are not thriving upon the message in the words of the Word. We are just getting by.

Life was not meant for just getting by.

Look beyond the message in the words to the Word Himself.
