True Wealth

13 When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is this: fear God and keep his commands, because this is for all humanity. (Ecclesiastes 12:13 CSB)

Ecclesiastes provides us insight into the answer to the question, what would you do if money were no object. Solomon was the greatest king that ever lived. He amassed an enormous amount of wealth, property, animals and things. In fact, it could truly be said that he had everything.

Furthermore, in a pursuit of joy he tried every thing under the sun. Ever pleasure, every indulgence and he found they all came to naught, all was vanity, all folly.

He then came to a conclusion to the matter: fear God and keep His commandments. And this message was meant for all humanity because it applies to us all.

We, today, are still in Solomon’s quest for the next best thing. We are stressed and bored. We think more will mean better, but as Solomon found out this is not the case. Even though there are thresholds to having enough to provide some level of contentment, they are false safety, they are false joy. Everything can be taken away in an instant and what are we left with?

We are left with God, with who we are and with how we have impacted those around us. These things are the true wealth in life. These are the things that continue to give back and create true joy and contentment.
