Misplaced Trust

5 Why should I fear in times of trouble?
The iniquity of my foes surrounds me.
They trust in their wealth
and boast of their abundant riches.
Yet these cannot redeem a person[a]
or pay his ransom to God— (Psalms 49:5-7 CSB)

Security in wealth is a misplaced trust. Fortunes are easily lost and our situation can turn on a dime. So too is trust in strength and health, in power or any other seeming security we have in life. They can all be fleeting.

I do not say this today as reason to feel lost, alone or fearful, but as a sobering fact.

Now if each of our day’s start with the secure foundation of our trust in Christ, then here we have a reason for hope and joy. For His is a trust not misplaced but founded in the security of our salvation. Founded in the idea that it will all be alright no matter what.

In this trust alone can we find lasting joy and peace.

This is not to say we may not have hard times. This is to say that even during the most difficult season Christ is our rock, the author and perfecter of our faith.

Place trust where it can be forever fulfilled, even into eternity.
