18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of his strength. (Ephesians 1:18-19 CSB)
What does it mean to us to be enlightened?
Many think that it is a state where we become open and accepting to everything. This is much of what we see in Eastern spiritualism.
But scripture teaches us that it is more specific than this. That true enlightenment is that we may know what is the hope of our calling and our inheritance as sons of God. It is the knowledge of Christ and the Spirits wisdom in our lives. Enlightenment is the assurance of heaven and eternity, it is the acceptance of our calling in Christ to move forward through the narrow gate of faithful living.
We may want to consider ourselves enlightened, but it truly only comes through the study of scripture, fervent prayer and thanksgiving.
As each day dawns bright with hope, we have yet another opportunity to enlighten others.
