9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. (1 Timothy 6:9 NKJV)
I think our scriptures illustration of someone drowning is apt for what happens today, especially to the wealthy. The more we have, the more we want. It is a self-deluding trick the enemy and the world plays on us. We are always pointed to the next best thing, but there too we find only more of the same. It is only when we start to strive more for God than what the world has to offer we begin to feel whole.
It is a strange thing, that we can drown in all our stuff and activities. We want for more and more, a bigger house, nicer cars, more toys and for what? To fill the God sized hole within us that can only be filled by The Father.
In turning from all of our stuff and striving we can begin to glimpse the world that opens up to us when we are right with the Lord. By getting in lock step with Him we find we are finally fulfilled.
Reflect on: What you are trying to fill your God sized hole within that isn’t God and how destructive that can be.
