12 So he looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.
13 And when he went out the second day, behold, two Hebrew men were fighting…
14 Then he said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?”
So Moses feared and said, “Surely this thing is known!” (Exodus 2:12-14 NKJV abridged)
What do you think Moses was thinking when he “looked this way and that way”? Did he have best intentions in mind? Or was he concerned someone would notice what he was doing…which someone did.
There are times when we tend to take things into our own hands. We think we know the best way and we forge ahead without really considering the consequences. We may not mean any form of harm, but still we subconsciously look this way and that way.
Anytime our actions begin with even a subconscious need to consider who might see, or find out, what we are doing should be a red flag. But how often do old habits and sinful ways get in the way and we move ahead even knowing the potential consequences?
We must test our actions by our faith, scripture and prayer. Without this we cannot hope to be obedient to God.
Reflect on: Things you do that you really don’t want others knowing about. Test these things and consider what your Father thinks.
