Rescued and Reconciled

19 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, 20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. 21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—(Colossians 1:19-22 NKJV)

God, even when we were lost in sin, sent His Son to rescue and reconcile us to him through death. In death He created life. Life we could have had no other way and no other religion provides. Where all others require works, our salvation requires nothing but acceptance and turning away from our sins.

This will make us want to do more works for God because of His free gift of salvation. But we are not saved through those works. It is a simple byproduct of our mutual love and gratitude. There will be days where we do not feel like working for God, days where our sin nature will win out. But those are battles, they are not the war, which Christ has already won. As our scripture says, He made peace through the blood of His cross. The fullness of all things dwell in Christ.

Reflect on: The fact that you have been rescued and reconciled with God through Christ. Thank Him for His great mercy.
