The “Good Life”

12 Who is this person who fears the Lord?
He will show him the way he should choose.
13 He will live a good life,
and his descendants will inherit the land. (Psalm 25:12-13 CSB)

We all want assurance and we have it in the way of our faith and salvation. But we may have to endure much while still on earth.

So why is it that the Bible is full of passages like our’s today?

Well, first off, there are the many other passages that speak of us having to bear our crosses and give up much for the live the Lord planned for us. Additionally, if we think about the apostles, many of them spent the remainder of their lives in hardship and were ultimately killed for their belief.

No, we look at life through the lens of our western thinking. The world many of us live in is one of opulence and abundance. Often our trials take place around our desires and wants and not our needs or our God given mission.

Many, maybe most, of us live a life of complete ease and do not really realize it. We have had so much for so long that anything less seems like loss.

We must begin to look at our lives through the lens of the greater world and through God’s eyes. His view of our “good life” may, and probably is, far different from ours.
