37 Then David said, “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” (1 Samuel 17:37a CSB)
So David is about to square off with Goliath, the Philistine champion. Remember David was just a boy at the time and Goliath had been trained for war since he was young and was a giant of a man. So big that the army of Israel was holding back.
But David knew that he was not fighting this battle alone. Even in his youth, he had been wrestling with things bigger and more ferocious than he.
We can often feel this way. That we are having to square off with the Goliath’s in our lives. When we go about this alone we feel small and easily overmatched. Maybe it is not that we are going it alone and we are asking for God’s help, but we are allowing our flesh or the enemy to win in our lives.
No matter the circumstance, if we will but stop and let God go before us then the plan He has will be what we are following. Instead of trying to do life on our own, in our own weakness, we must stop and allow God to deal with the Goliath’s in our life.
