Just Like Them

15 The idols of the nations are of silver and gold,
made by human hands.
16 They have mouths but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see.
17 They have ears but cannot hear;
indeed, there is no breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them are just like them,
as are all who trust in them. (Psalm 135:15-18 CSB)

The idols we construct…we are just like them.

But you say that you do not construct idols.

Do you work too much? Spend all your time on a hobby? Worry constantly about money? Are you a slave to success? Do you put anything in your life above or in front of God, even for a moment?

Then yes you do, and you are just like your idol; blind, deaf and mute.

We idolize many things in this country and call it something else. This may seem a harsh indictment, but it is a well founded one and one I too have worshiped at the feet of at times in my life. I do not say this about others without recognizing it in my own life.

Lord search us and give us insight into the idols we construct so that we may tear them down and worship only You. Let us not be just like them.
