Delaying

16 And now, why are you delaying? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’ (Acts 22:16 CSB)

Delaying. Procrastinating. Feet dragging. Lethargy.

We have these and many more words to describe not getting on with the doing of something. This while we have become less and less patient ourselves. We cannot stand to wait for anything. We are an instant gratification society.

Before you think me too harsh, consider your daily commute and getting stuck in a traffic jam.

Now today, in our current global situation you may not be stuck in traffic any longer. So maybe consider having to wait upon others to get on with a project, a sale, a promotion.

I confess, I am not a patient man. I have prayed to be so and God has answered by putting me in ever increasing situations that test my patience. You see, God is good like that. When we pray for something we have no patience for, He gives us more and more reason to exercise that much needed habit.

But what about when it comes to our faith life? Are we delaying in either coming to Christ or in doing something He has clearly instructed us to do? This, my friend, is the worst kind of delay.
