4 Let each person examine his own work, and then he can take pride in himself alone, and not compare himself with someone else. (Galatians 6:4 CSB)
Comparison and competition drive many of us to strive to be better. Whether it is in relation to athletic performance, work or just life in general we use others success or capabilities to measure ourselves by.
This can lead to a life that always feels short or a life where we are constantly looking over our back to see how far we are ahead.
God does not want us to live this kind of life.
His is the only measure which we should be concerned about comparison. How are we doing against His measure of success. I would venture if we focused on this as keenly as we do the other we find a very different set of criteria.
Then we could take pride in what we are doing for the Kingdom and work toward this one most important goal. Then we could strive for a higher good that may not improve our worldly success but would build our eternal success.
Our comparison should only be against how we are striving for God.
