17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 I sanctify myself for them, so that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
We are sent out into the world each day to make our way. This first begins as we strike out on our own, be that after college or for some much earlier. We know that we must make our way if we are to survive.
We may encounter many feelings of being alone when we strike out or even on a regular basis after we have found a place in the world. Feelings of being adrift on an open sea are not uncommon. This can especially be true after we have lost a parent or a close mentor. We begin to realize that without strong relationships we are on our own.
However, with Christ we are never truly alone. Once we come to faith we have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to help guide us, even in an open sea. We can set out knowing that God is with us no matter where we go or what our circumstance.
Going into the world is exactly what God wants of us. His desire is that we not only make a place for our selves but that we take the time to make a place for Him. And in doing so our lives reflect to the world that we are not of the world. We have been sanctified by the truth.
