Doing Some Son Bathing

10 Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10a NKJV)

Reading in a book by Brennan Manning recently he wrote, “Prayer is like sunbathing. When you spend a lot of time in the sun, people notice it…Prayer – or bathing in the Son of God’s love – makes you look different. The awareness of being loved brings a touch of lightness and a tint of brightness…”

It is in our prayer where we need to be still and experience the presence of God. We are never so close than when we are in prayer. This closeness should leave a mark on our lives, like Brennan notes. If we come away from prayer unaffected there may be something wrong with our prayer.

I have struggled with my prayer life. Not that I have not made it a point to pray regularly, but I often feel my prayers are weak and full of repetition. To be honest, there are things I pray for continually. Prayers for my family, my work, our health, these things become almost too routine. It is good to deepen your prayer life and make it a conversation with God, where you make a petition and then wait for a response.

Reflect on: How your prayer life is changing your outward appearance or your interactions.
